Glitches in Games in Real Virtual Photography

Visual glitches in games have always existed and probably were first highlighted to non-hardcore gamers crowd when the “Enter The Matrix Game” hit public status and was literally littered with game glitches. But small annoyances and bugs can become an inspiration and part of creative process and Robert Overweg, a Dutch photographer in the virtual world who has exhibited throughout the world, has taken up the challenge to create a series of photos based on glitches in games.

Overweg dwells through the virtual worlds of first and third person shooter games. He looks into the similarities, differences and borders between the virtual and the physical world. Borders which are being tested and stretched by Overweg.

He sees the virtual world as a direct expansion of the “real” world, the virtual places where players come together in multiplayer maps are for Overweg the new public spaces of contemporary society. For him it is logical to document his experiences and research through his photography. While making use of the new possibilities the virtual world give him.

We had a massive lightning storm in Toronto last night. I set my camera to do 15 second exposures at 17 seconds intervals for three hours and from 660 shots more than 60 of them had lightning in them. The image above is made out of two of those capture

A Russian pilot ejected from a Sukhoi fighter jet at Mach 2 speed. The ‘stunt’ was for a movie. The pilot ejected himself from the most modern and advanced SU-35UB prototype plane.
Words from his colleague in the plane:

While on this speed I even managed to pull out my fingers in glove for an inch or two outside – it became heated very fast because of immense friction force plane undergoes with the air.

The older internauts among us might remember the good ol’ days, when Suicide Girls took off and quickly became the adult niche for many a nerd and geek. Ever since end 2007 Sg have been falling down the pecking order, mainly because of the ever more mainstream character of both site and girls. Or the low level of both.
Earlier this year SG reached a new low with the free SG Fight Club shoot [NSFW]. Over the last years the yearly membership fee has dropped massively. Not surprisingly.

Today a new, free shoot has been released for ComicCon and it gives SG a new spin. Safe for work and without nakedness. Suicide girls go Cosplay. There are some cool photos actually in the shoot.

Much has been written about the elections in Iran and the surrounding social media revolution, AKA #iranelection. I tried to stay out of the whole hype, not because I have no opinion but mainly because frankylious aims to be a refreshing breeze. I obviously failed at not posting about #iranelectiongate. And today I am back with a new entry. This picture probably is even more significant than Mike Luckovich’s cartoon.

Amazing hand-drawn aerial photography

Ross Racine has specialized in drawing aerial ‘photography’ in Photoshop. His work consists of no pictures at all and could be used for the planning of fictional suburbs, referencing the computer as a tool for urban planning as well as image capture.
