Nanotechnology Could Be Dangerous. Extremely Hard To Spot Danger

A new paper published by the German Federal Environment Agency has warned for possible dangers from nanotechnology. The German internet immediately inflated the warning and the nanodanger became humongous in the rumour kitchen.

Yet some studies have emerged that do appear to show nano-sized ingredients can be harmful. One, from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health in the United Kingdom, found that when mice inhaled carbon nano-tubes, they developed lung inflammations similar to those caused by asbestos. The lung inflammations did eventually subside. Another theory posits that nano-materials could have an impact on human DNA and more science-fiction-style scenarios involve the deadly military potential of items like the flexible amour and lightweight combat equipment being developed at Florida State University in the United States.

Cop hits cyclist at Freedom not Fear demo in Germany

We love posting videos of abusive police officers here at frankylicious. Today’s no exception with the video of a cyclist being beaten and arrested after what seems a regular check. Although the sound does not help establishing if he were verbally abusive, before being dragged over, the cop at the left at 0:34 clearly hit out several times.

View the video in (phone camera) HD at Vimeo and those of you who speak German can read more about the whole demo and incident at Nerdcore (otherwise get help from Google Translate).

Small life in Cologne, finally more tilt-shift video

Tilt-shift video has been missing from these pages over the last few weeks but this awesome ‘Small life in Cologne’ video should make up for it. And yes, I can guarantee you that the climbing wall a feature in town is and not something used by two bored dads on a Sunday afternoon. There is even a second location nearby.

Credit crunch hits brothels

German brothel owners have found a creative way to combat the credit crunch and now offer all you can eat deals.

Germany will ban violent video games

Germany which has always been hard on violent video games (Unreal Tournament 2003 was blacklisted for a long time and only after a revision found the way back to the shelves, albeit with 18+ rating), is now preparing the final move to ban all violent shooters. Ministers of all 16 federations have agreed and the motion is expected to pass in parliament over the next weeks.
The law would result in no Call of Duty, no God of War, no Crysis, no World of Warcraft, no BioShock, no Uncharted, and no Grand Theft Auto. The law is hoped to come into effect before the country’s federal elections in September. The minister of the interior of Lower Saxony commented:

Violent games lower the inhibition level for real violence and spree killers have again and again played such before they did the crime.
