With help from his friend Jake Keen — an expert on ancient metal-making techniques — the author dug up 81kg of ore and smelted it in the grounds of his house, using a makeshift kiln built from clay and hay and fuelled with damp sheep manure.

Pratchett, who has Alzheimer’s disease, also said he had thrown in “several pieces of meteorites — thunderbolt iron, you see — highly magical, you’ve got to chuck that stuff in whether you believe in it or not”.

After days of hammering the metal into bars, he took it to a blacksmith, whom he helped to shape it into a blade, which was finished with silverwork.

For all of you who have way too much of money comes this Louis Vuitton Tambour Mysterieuse Calibre LV115 watch, with a price tag of $265.000.

The watch is made out of 115 hand-mounted parts and has a winding mechanism. One winding is good for 8 days. At $265.000 one could at least have expected a battery or even a kinetic winding mechanism. The best thing about the watch is how it appears to defy the laws of physics with its floating movement and suspended hour and minute indicators. The secret lies in two transparent sapphire disks supporting the hour and minute hands. Oh and for $265.000 ou are also allowed to design the casing yourself, just in case you wanted to screw up the good looks of the watch.

It seems very hard to transfer a copy, already released on HD-DVD to the left-over format BD.

One would have thought that with the last episodes about to start, it would have been a great timing to release at least the first 4 Seasons, and complete box sets, for the 2008 Holiday Season. My limited marketing sense agrees with this concept, but who am I.
Other than a BSG fan eager to waste his earned money on yet another release of BSG and replace the DVD boxsets for the third time.

At least here’s hope for the 2009 Holiday Season.
